Geneva PodCasting/GodCasting FAQs
(Frequently Asked Questions)

1.

Is there any difference between listening on Windows and listening on an Apple Macintosh computer?

No the basic steps and procedures are about the same.
2. When I click on the link, the MP3 software runs, but I don’t hear anything.  What is wrong?
Check to make sure that your speakers are turned on and the volume is turned up.  If that doesn’t work make sure that the volume on your computer isn’t turned down or muted.  Also check the volume on the MP3 software to make sure its not muted or turned down.
3. I have an MP3 player on my computer, how can this be portable?
This is confusing.  Microsoft includes a software product called the MP3 Player with its Windows operating system.  This is what Windows uses to play MP3 and other formatted files on your computer.  Many manufacturers make a portable device called an MP3 Player that, like an iPod, is used to play MP3 files anywhere without the computer.
4. I can’t seem to get the audio to play smoothly.  There are pauses and distortion in Anne’s voice.  What's wrong?
This could be either 1.) a problem with the connection to the Internet, especially if you’re using dialup or 2.) an old version of the MP3 software.  Try downloading the MP3 file first (using right mouse and save As) and then playing it.  If that doesn’t work, update your MP3 software from Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com) or Apple (for Macintosh users).
5. I don’t see the latest sermon(s) on the web page.  Why is this?
The web page could be cashed.  Try clicking the Refresh button on your browser.  If that doesn’t help, it could be that the latest sermon isn’t loaded as yet.  Try again later.
6. I can’t find sermons by lay leaders or guest pastors on the web site.  Why are these missing?
At the present time, Geneva does not Godcast sermons or homilies by anyone other than Reverend Anne Benefield.
7. Why isn’t our beautiful music from the services included in the Godcast?
The recording quality in the sanctuary isn’t sufficient for such purposes and would be a disappointment.  Also, copyright laws and performance musician contracts prohibit the distribution of music recorded during church services via the Internet.
8. I can’t find sermons from years previous to 2006 on the web site.  Where would I find these?
Geneva started recording its services in 2003.  We made a decision to limit our Godcast services to 2006 and later.  If you want a specific sermon and know the date, please let the sound engineer know and we’ll make up a CD for you.
9. What happened to Anne’s sermon from the picnic or the Easter Sunrise service?
Because it was outdoors and we used portable equipment, these services were not recorded.
10. What is the difference between an iPod and an MP3 player?
Apple Computers, the makers of the Macintosh computer, manufactures the iPod.  MP3Players are manufactured by a number of vendors.  MP3 Players are generally less expensive than iPods.
