Holy week is a time for reflection and celebration at Geneva Presbyterian Church as we travel from Palm Sunday, to Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter. We hope you will be able to attend each of the services, joining your friends as we remember the story of our Lord's Passion and Resurrection.
.
Palm Sunday: As we celebrate Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem, the children will process with palms and sing two songs: "With My Whole Heart" and "Hallelu, Hallelu, Hallelu, Hallelujah." The Geneva Choir will sing a much-loved anthem, "The Palms" by Faure. I'll be preaching a sermon entitled "Coming to Jerusalem" about facing challenges and trials.

Maundy Thursday: For many this traditional service marking the final night of Jesus' earthly life is the most powerful service of the year. We will join Him at the table on the night He was betrayed. As the story is told through scripture, the night grows darker, and we find ourselves experiencing the shadows. The Geneva Choir will sing a lovely anthem called "Come to the Shadows" by Joseph Martin.
Good Friday Pilgrimage: Once again, Geneva will participate with area churches in the Good Friday Pilgrimage that travels through Rockville. Reverend Anne will preach a short meditation on the sentencing of Jesus to death. Please join us for a service that reminds us that Jesus traveled by foot and ministered in villages and towns to the needy and lost..

Sunrise Easter Communion Service: At 6:15 a.m. on the north lawn in the morning shadow of the empty cross, we will gather to celebrate the resurrection. Since the risen Jesus was first seen in the garden, it seems particularly appropriate to gather by the trees at a wooden communion table to hear the voices of the birds singing along with the music of an English Handbell Quartet. The sermon is entitled "Why Wake Up Early?" Following the service, the youth will provide breakfast to raise money for their work camp this summer.
Resurrection Easter Sunday: At 10:45 a.m., the prelude will begin for our resurrection service! The Bells of Geneva will ring "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" and "For Thine is the Glory." The Geneva Choir will sing "Love So Amazing" and "The Power of the Cross." The sermon is entitled "Ending Strong." It will be a wondrous, amazing and powerful service of celebration to the glory of God.
